Job Searching in My Pajamas

In Thomas Friedman’s National bestseller “The World is Flat”, he writes about globalization and how the world is rapidly shrinking in large part due to the fact that so much of the modern and not so modern world is connected and online. On a micro level, this is what makes virtual recruitment possible.

Now, imagine an industry specific job fair, where no travel was required, anonymity was an option, wearing a suit or your pajamas was perceived to be the same and no one was judged on how they looked. Instead, individuals from all corners of the world were invited to attend this virtual environment from the comfort of their own desktop.

Think of all of the advantages. Think about the efficiencies. Think about the environmental friendliness with no paper collateral being handed out, no giveaways to end up in landfills and no carbon emissions from travel.

Sound a little futuristic? Well, interestingly enough our industry, the global energy industry has been running events just like this for almost 2 years. In fact, on this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, PennEnergyJOBS will be hosting 2 separate virtual job fairs (one for the petroleum industry and one for the power industry respectively). Both of these events are free to attend and promise to be excellent opportunities for industry professionals and employers to meet, interact and discuss employment prospects. As of the writing of this blog, there are already close to 2,000 industry professionals registered to attend each of these events.

Now at the risk of a little shameless self-promotion, let me identify some of the benefits:

• You can browse anonymously & unseen by your current employer or industry peers

• You can chat live with real recruiters from some of the leading industry employers

• If you can’t make the live day, the entire event is available on-demand for 90-days.

Tell us what you think… Are virtual job fairs a step in the right direction or are they omitting some of the important subtleties that are only gained from a live environment?

Which are the possibilities for professionals from Colombia, to be able to work in the exterior, specifically in oil/gas

    Laureano,

The PennEnergyJOBS Virtual Job Fair promotes employment for many companies with opportunities all over the world. Yor best bet would be to attend the job fair tomorrow as well as visit the website PennEnergyJOBS for opportunities. You should be aware in your job search that not every employer is able or interested in relocating individuals. Typically, this would be detailed in the individual job descriptions.

Any ideas on when you’ll be hosting these virtual fairs?

I love the idea! Not having to leave the office in order to search for a job is always a good thing.

This is a great idea. It provides many comfort zones for people searching for positions or those looking into new careers. I am sure it is valuable for the employers as well.
