Self-Promotion to Better Your Career
Self-promotion, like networking or branding, is another way to boost visibility and keep moving you toward your ultimate career goals. Like everything, self-promotion requires a laid out plan and some skill. The first thing is to be sure to stick to self-promotion rather than self-adulation. Self-adulation is just the promotion of accomplishments, deeds that have already been done; whereas, self-promotion is the art of spreading ideas, concepts and a greater vision.
So how does this help in your career endeavors? Through the promotion of your ideas you give people something to cheer for. You give people something they can support, and by doing so they are also supporting you.
Some of the best self-promoters in history are Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali. They all had exceptional accomplishments to their names, but they were more loved and supported for their ideas and vision.
A few suggestions to create a successful self-promotion campaign:
1. Focus. What are the ideas, concepts or vision you will develop and stand behind? These concepts should be tied to you in some way. Ali was “the greatest,” but strong ideas and ability to communicate them were pound for pound just as compelling as his athletic ability when it came to his fan base.
Your ideas do not have to be edgy. People tend to support things that make them feel good. Present them with concepts or a vision that inspire them rather than challenge them.
2. Confidence. If you aren’t inspired by your actions or ideas, no one else will be either.
3. Clarity. Be very specific about the message you are communicating to your audience.
4. Audience. Not everyone will be on board with your ideas and that is fine. All you need to focus on are the people who do believe in the vision you are putting forth. Continue to inspire them and they will work tirelessly to continue to promote you.
Think of it this way, you leading a self-promotion campaign to a few people at work. They buy in and think, “Hey, this person has something; I’m impressed.” They will combine you and your ideas as one; the ideas are impressive, so too is the person. You have won over a fan. This person will tell others how impressed they are with you, and eventually the decision makers at your company will begin to hear the praise being given. Company decision makers never want to let talent leave the company so you have increased your current stability while also opening up other potential opportunities.
Start within your own company and then begin working on your industry. The sky is the limit!

Dear Colleague,
Self promotion and actualization has been the hallmark of notable achievers in the history, but in the today’s corporate world it has become a fad and reputedly selfish activity by the managers who are in habbit of seeing their work done through magnifying glass,I will consider it negative and of those who otherwise can not flourish through hard work integrity competence and ingenuinity.

Your article is good enough to focus on word of mouth social networking.
What I generally find is that, people come to know about a spark in that individual. Top bosses & managers want that fellow to wok with them but they think of getting work done. This could be the ill impact of showing spark. People sometimes appreciate it but rest of the times the fellow gets treated as ‘tool’.
